PALLIATIVE CARE SERVICES ARE IN JEOPARDY!
Palliative care services are in serious jeopardy in Delta, British Columbia. The Delta Hospice Society (DHS) owns and operates the Irene Thomas Hospice and has been providing excellent palliative care in the community for 10 years. The Society is committed to the 50 year discipline of Palliative Care Medicine which supports a natural death.
While the British Columbia Government has decreed that euthanasia must be provided, the Society has refused in order to protect its palliative care beds for palliative care patients. As a result, the government will remove its funding from the Society in February 2021, and will seize its hospice beds to use for death on demand.

WHAT IS PALLIATIVE CARE?
Palliative Care = caring not killing
Protects the dignity of the human person. Does not hasten death. Therefore does not include euthanasia or MAiD. For however long a person has to live - be it 5 minutes or 100 years - they are to be loved and cherished. The philosophy is that the people we care for are precious. Palliative Care focuses on the relief of all types of pain - physical, emotional, psychological, social and spiritual. It alleviates the suffering, it does not dispense with the sufferer.
It is a 50 year medical discipline that has been developed in tangent with a Canadian Doctor named Dr. Balfour Mount. He worked out of McGill University in Montreal. He is considered the Father of Palliative Care. Palliative Care is a National Treasure and a Gift to humanity. It is a reflection of everything compassionate and generous about being Canadian. It is a part of our national identity.
Palliative Care is the epitome of Equality of all human life regardless of illness or circumstance. All human life is appreciated equally. Regardless if one is a healthy, young person or an infirm elderly person all people are equal and deserving of the best medical care we are capable of. MAiD is killing not caring.
Palliative Care is the antidote to suicidal despair. Despair = suffering - meaning
Possible to live well because of death- it unleashes love, compassion and does a great service to human kind in that we are given the honour of being allowed to care for the most vulnerable- the person needing us.

WhAT IS MaID?
MAiD = Suicide promotion, abandons people to suicidal despair. Deadly form of discrimination. People’s will to live fluctuates - the will to live or desire to die is transient. it is their mental health that propels people toward euthanasia. In a majority of cases the reasons given for wanting MAiD are Anxiety, depression, loneliness, losing autonomy, no purpose - these are suicide symptoms. Small percentage because of physical pain and we can alleviate that. Therefore the desire to kill oneself is above all a mental health issue.
In Spain, political party Vox leader Santiago Abascal told a Spanish news program,
"In the face of a government of death, a government of hopelessness, a government
that only offers death to those who are at the end of life,
we want to offer alternatives, we want to offer hope. We believe in palliative care."
